Antigraviator announces new winter skin and launch on consoles in 2019.
As the year comes to an end, we wanted to share one last update with you all – to thank you for your support in 2018 and give you a look at our plans for 2019!
First of all, we’ve made a free update available this afternoon for PC, which includes a new winter skin for all players to coincide with the Steam winter sale, together with a couple of fixes for some small issues. The community on PC has been so supportive and it means so much to us to hear from you – so please keep engaging with us on Facebook, Twitter and everywhere else!
As you can expect, our main attention right now is on the console port for PS4 and Xbox One. PS4 is going really well – we’ve submitted a build for certification this week, which we’ve finally got running at 60fps. This was a huge challenge. When we first started porting, the game ran at only 20fps, forcing us to learn a lot about the platforms themselves, as well as Unity!
To get a bit technical – working on consoles has been a story of small gains: you’re either CPU or GPU-bound: your frame takes longer to render on the GPU or process on the CPU. An example of this can be occlusion culling: in the beginning we noticed better performance when it was off, because it added to the time the CPU needed. In the end we turned it back on, as we had room on the CPU, but then the GPU became the blocker! We’re nearly there though, and can’t wait to see console streamers try to beat the best times put down by the likes of Z-Boy, Division X and Toadetteplayeuse, who have been dominating the PC version so far!
There’s still lots of testing we need to do on the Xbox One version, making sure that what we’ve achieved on PS4 works just as well on One S and One X. And we haven’t forgotten about the multiplayer issue – a fix is in the works!
However, we’re confident the game will be ready to launch on both PS4 and Xbox One in early 2019 – and we should have more concrete timings very soon!
Happy holidays from everyone at Cybernetic Walrus, wishing everyone a happy new year – bring on 2019!
